A Christmas Gift for Remote Villagers on Mount Jayawijaya is Electricity

id Utama. Papua, Twilight slowly changes night on the west side of the Jayawijaya mountains, Papua. Cold air pierced as the fog slowly descended the mountain slopes. However, a smiling smile still expanded from the face of the Tebai Muses.

The night view, which was pitch black, now turned into a sea of white light that came from energy-saving lamps.

"In the past, our region has never had lights. Electricity only reaches a part of it, mainly in public buildings. But now, our homes are brightly lit," said the Muses.

The Muses is the Head of Kamu District, Dogiyai Regency, Papua Province. The district is located on the eastern side of Dogiyai Regency and is directly adjacent to Paniai Regency and Timika Regency, 1,500 meters above sea level.

Located in the mountains, this district is far from the hustle and bustle of the city. It takes five hours to travel overland from the nearest city, Nabire with steep and winding road conditions. No wonder if life in your district is truly all-round, including electricity.

Like being crushed by windfall, the District You finally got the help of Energy-Saving Solar Energy Lamp (LTSHE) from the Ministry of Energy and Mineral Resources (ESDM) this December. The assistance was not wasted by him. He immediately spread LTSHE in four villages in the Kamu District, namely Bukapa, Idakotu, Ekemenida, and Dikiyouwa villages.

"With this assistance, of course we have information. And as district heads, indeed we often asked for a helping hand from the central government to help us, assisted by the Dogiyai District Government. Finally, we can get information at the end of the year," he explained.

It's not an easy matter to present stun in this district that has cool air. He claimed to have often asked PT PLN (Persero) to help build a network to your district. Finally, the request was submitted when PLN was establishing electricity poles in the area around the Trans Papua road.

At that time, PLN had promised to connect the district with electricity as soon as possible. However, the area of Dogiyai Regency is quite extensive, so PLN prioritizes electricity connection around Trans Papua first. Electricity for the villages is planned by PLN as the second phase of connection.

Electricity connections from PLN can actually be forced into villages in your district. However, it costs not a little. Meanwhile, electricity connection of one house can be priced at IDR 3 million to IDR 6 million depending on its capacity.

However, that much money is not shared by the average population of your District. He said, currently the Kamu District has a population of 13 thousand people and most of them work by opening fields and raising livestock. Just to meet daily needs is difficult, especially to pay for electricity connections.

"But we also cannot blame PLN, because the area that must be lit by PLN is also quite extensive so of course they are working gradually. We are also not sure that PLN will enter this year, so this lamp aid is very useful for us," added Muses.

The presence of these lights is expected to improve the living standards of your District. Children can now study and read books at night. In fact, his parents can also read the Bible at night without having to struggle to find information.

However, he hoped that this helping hand from the government would not just stop. There are still many villages in your district that have not been touched by electricity. Moreover, from 12 villages in the Kamu District, only four villages have received these solar lights.

"And we convey to the President to pay attention to Dogiyai District in general. Because at the 2014 general election yesterday, 100 percent of the population of Dogiyai chose him as president, but we felt that the assistance was still minimal," he explained.
